I’ve been trying to figure out if the struts from a 97-02 Expedition will fit on the front of my 2002 Explorer (it’s the Eddie Bauer V8). I’m seeing mixed answers online—some people say yes, others say no. Has anyone here done this, or does anyone know for sure?
Check the part numbers on RockAuto and compare them. If they’re the same, you’re good to go.

It’s listed on Facebook Marketplace, so I can’t see any part numbers.

Gotcha. Try checking RockAuto anyway for both vehicles. If the part numbers match, they should fit.
No way, these are totally different vehicles. Why would you even think that would work? That’s like putting F-150 parts on a Ranger.

People swap Titan parts onto a Frontier, so…
@Elliott
Dude, you’re messing up again… Ford and Nissan are totally different!

Not always true. Lots of manufacturers reuse parts across models to cut costs. Could be a window switch or even major parts. Chill, young padawan!

I’m literally a master mechanic with 10 years of experience. Sure, some small parts might match, but frames and suspension? Not a chance between different platforms.

But you can take Titan parts for the front end and use them on a Frontier or Xterra since the frames are nearly identical. Just a bit longer on the Titan. Thanks, come again.
@Elliott
Take your Titan obsession somewhere else. This is Ford talk… Ford all the way.

Master of bad advice.

Coming from a Nissan fan… your opinion doesn’t mean much here.
Haha, can we keep it civil? This is getting heated over car parts!
Nah, it won’t work. Just buy the correct parts.
Definitely not.

Haha, okay, message received.
Seriously, the Explorer uses struts while the Expedition uses shocks. Struts have a travel range around 16.7-19 inches, but the Expedition’s shocks only go about 10-14 inches. Totally different setups. I don’t get why you’d risk buying old parts from Marketplace when new ones aren’t even that pricey. You get to pick soft or firm depending on your driving style with new ones too.
@Zeek
I’m pretty sure both the Explorer and Expedition have struts and shocks. I know some vehicles share parts, like the Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer. I was just wondering if the same was true for the Expedition and Explorer, but couldn’t find a clear answer.
