What is this mystery part from my 2017 Ford Explorer Sport?

Google Lens helped me figure it out. Check this link.

Thanks a ton! Turns out this part is a piston cooling nozzle from a 2013-2014 Ford Mustang. I checked the repair summary for my Explorer, and it says the oil pan was removed and resealed. I’m thinking they accidentally dropped this piece into the pan during the work.

Where did you find it? Was it on the ground or did you remove it from somewhere?

I found it in the bottom of my oil drain pan during an oil change. Looks like it ended up in the oil pan and came out with the oil.

If that came out of your engine, I’d expect a ton of error codes and some obvious problems.

That’s what I thought too, but I’ve had zero issues or codes. Like I mentioned earlier, it’s a piston cooling nozzle from a 2013-2014 Mustang. I think the shop accidentally dropped it into the oil pan when they were resealing it.

Wow, you got really lucky that it didn’t cause a disaster in your crankcase!
