I’m looking to get another Explorer. Right now, I have a 2021 XLT (lease). The ST-Line looks great with the bigger wheels and red stitching in the interior, but I’m disappointed that it has cloth seats. I’m not too fond of the captain’s chairs, but I guess I could live with them (I have them now). Has anyone here tried the ST-Line and really loved it? My main worry is my dogs shed a lot, so cleaning dog hair from those seats seems like it could be a hassle.
I think Active is just the new name for the XLT. What are the pros and cons of each option?
Yeah, but that’s a big price jump of at least $15k. If I could afford that, I wouldn’t be stuck choosing between these trim lines.
I might sound harsh, but why buy a version of the car you can’t afford? From what it looks like, the Active might suit your needs better. Just explore your options.
@Finn
The ST-Line has upgrades in suspension and brakes compared to the Active; it’s more than just looks. It’s probably more fun to drive than my 2021 Limited.

I really like everything about the ST-Line, except for the seats. They call them ‘luxury materials’ but at the end of the day, they’re still just cloth.

If you check the Ford parts site, the ST has the same part number for pads and rotors as the XLT. Only the Street package ST has really upgraded brakes. The ‘upgraded’ ST-Line brakes are just a red caliper cover. Don’t fall for the marketing tricks; it’s easy to get misled.
@Finn
Not everyone is looking for a super fast SUV. Some just want the style and better gas mileage with the ST-Line. Let’s not get into the problems the ST had in past years. So thanks to Ford for giving us what we want.
@Aris
Then don’t buy the cheaper version if you want the good one. If you just want to ‘look’ like you have the cool version, you’re just being fake. That’s how it is. What problems are you talking about? The issues from 2020 Explorers, like CV axles and 10R60 failures, aren’t just ST-specific. The misunderstanding in this thread is pretty wild.

You seem to be the one acting childish here. Calling someone a poser over a car? It’s just a car, let’s be mature.
You called me 8 years old and then posted a reply that sounds like ‘I know you are but what am I.’ I shouldn’t expect anything else from someone with a name like LizzieShits. You keep proving my point, but go off.
@Finn
What I mentioned has nothing to do with price, so why keep trying to insult me? I’m not looking for a ‘look-alike.’ Honestly, I don’t care much about the ST.
I’ve decided on the Active. The main differences are cosmetic, a wireless phone charger, and Blue Cruise. Not worth the price difference for me, especially since I prefer bench seats.

I’ve seen a few ST-Lines in my area for the same price as the Active, which is why I’m torn between the two. I’m just worried I’ll regret going with the cloth seats.
@Niko
The ST-Line costs about $5k more than the Active. If you can get the ST-Line for the same price, that sounds like a solid choice. The ST-Line looks really sharp.
