Sync 3.4 Update Help

I bought a used 2020 Explorer a few weeks ago and have been trying to update the software. The current version is 3.4 build 19200, and the vehicle is downloading 5U5T-14G391-CS. It’s been going for over 2 hours and still isn’t finished.

I also tried using a USB drive formatted to exFAT, but after leaving it in the car for 2.5 hours, I gave up. Does anyone know how I can speed up the update process?

Update should take at most 30 mins. Try downloading the update again onto the USB drive. In the meantime, turn off Wi-Fi and automatic updates. Some people have better luck by doing a master reset and then immediately updating with the USB. If you’re not on version 23188, you might face issues with insufficient disk space.

Will this reset mess with my Sirusxm trial???

I’m not really sure bt If you’re not having any issues, it might be best to stay on the version you have. Version 19200 might not have the memory issues that newer versions usually do.

Be sure to cancel the free trial before it ends. I forgot to cancel mine, and they kept sending me bills all the time.

I don’t think that’s the case if you registered online for the extra 6 months. Otherwise, the trial is based on the radio’s EIN number, which is built into the hardware and doesn’t change with software updates.

I was able to update Sync using an 8 GB USB drive formatted to exFAT. The Wi-Fi update was really slow (even though my vehicle is almost directly under the router in the garage). I also updated the maps, which required a 16 GB USB drive. Each update took about 30-45 minutes.

I have a 2023 Explorer, and it started on version 2xxxx. The current Sync version is 3.4.23188.

Oh, and I did a master reset before the update to try to get the Wi-Fi to work. To perform a master reset, go to the system options and select the reset menu option.
