Not really. It’s just common sense, but I guess not for everyone.
So what’s the Explorer Sport Trac then?

@Afton
So is it a truck or an SUV? You’re dodging the question.

I have a 2020 Platinum (same engine). If you’re serious about this, make sure to BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. These vehicles are known for transmission and electrical issues.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ve read about some of these issues too.
@Gael
Yeah, I had a bunch of sensors go bad at once. Paid about $100 for what should’ve been a $1,200 repair job thanks to the warranty.
@Gael
My 2020 was an electrical nightmare. If you can, try to find a 2021 instead.
@Gael
My wife has a 2020 Platinum. It’s been a solid car overall, but we’ve had transmission problems, EGR purge issues, and some electrical gremlins. Extended warranty saved us a lot of money, but I do worry about what happens when it expires.
I’m interested in this topic too. Watching this thread.
It really depends on what you want. If you’re looking for a fast SUV that’s not a truck or just want something sporty, the Explorer ST in sport mode is a blast. I had a great experience with mine, but we ended up upgrading to something bigger because we needed it for towing. No major issues for me after a few years, just some minor recalls.
@Briar
That’s super helpful, thanks! I’m mostly looking for something to commute to work, handle light trails, deal with snow, and haul the family (one kid and two dogs). The Explorer seems like a good balance.
@Gael
If you’re open to it, check out the Audi SQ5. It’s a much better vehicle overall.
