New purchase help

I just bought a 2017 Ford Explorer XLT, and I’m already having some problems after just one week. The car pulls strongly to one side when I go over bumps. Is this normal or could it be a mechanical problem? Also, does the steering usually feel very loose in normal mode? It feels too loose, and I have to constantly correct the steering because the car keeps wanting to turn on its own. This is my first Explorer, and I’m a bit worried. Any advice would be helpful!

That’s abnormal.

First, check your tires. Make sure they all have about the same amount of wear and are properly inflated. You might also try swapping the front tires with the rear ones to see if that helps.

But the problem is likely with the suspension. If I were you, I’d take it to a mechanic (not a dealer) to have them check the suspension on all four corners. Suspension parts wear out over time and need replacing, which is normal.

It could be an alignment issue, or the tires might need balancing. My car had the same problem, and it turned out that the tires needed to be replaced.

Did the car have these problems when you first bought it a week ago???

Steering and suspension issues can be tricky, especially if the car was driven hard before you got it. If it’s been over a lot of potholes or rough roads, it might need a lot of repairs.

What you’re describing isn’t normal. Sounds like the car has had a rough time and might need major front-end repairs.

Does the car have a warranty? Check the tires for uneven wear or if they’re different brands or sizes. It might also need an alignment. If the rear toe link recall was done, it could have slipped out of adjustment.
