My dad’s looking for a 7-seater SUV with a budget of 200k. We’ve narrowed it down to the Kia Telluride and the Ford Explorer. What do you think we should go for, or is there something else we should consider? Thanks in advance!
Since it’s for your dad, make sure he test drives both. It’s his decision in the end. Maybe check out the Chevy Tahoe too—it’s got more interior space if that’s a priority.
Check out Al Tayer for promotions on brand-new 2022 Explorers (Limited trim). We got one for 171k, which is almost a 40k discount compared to the 2023 model, and they’re pretty much identical. It comes with a 5-year warranty, a service contract, and quick delivery. We had a 2015 Explorer for four years with no issues, and the service has always been good and reasonably priced.
@Patrice
Can you explain where to find these promotions?

You can check the Al Tayer Ford showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Thanks, got it!

Al Tayer’s service is great, but Ford cuts costs in places. Just take a look under the hood, and you’ll see what I mean with the wiring.
We had a loaner Explorer for a while, and honestly, it didn’t feel worth 200k. Not sure about the Telluride, but its interior is probably better. Have your dad test drive both and watch some ownership reviews to decide.
@Tal
Makes sense, thanks for the advice.
I’d go with the Telluride. I own one, so feel free to ask if you’ve got any questions about it.
I was considering both a few months ago but ended up with a slightly used Infiniti QX60 for just over 200k. It’s a better car in my opinion.

The QX60’s interior is on another level.
@Ben
If you can find a used one around 200k, it’s totally worth it. Brand-new, though, starts at 250k, so it’s a bit out of budget.
Telluride all the way:
- Likely more reliable—Kia has come a long way recently.
- Better resale value.
- Tons of features for the price.

I’d agree with points 1 and 3, but I’m not sure Kia’s resale value is much better than Ford’s.
@Miko
Resale value isn’t everything. Some people plan to keep their cars long-term and don’t care about selling later. Obsessing over resale can ruin the car ownership experience.
The Telluride has won ‘Best 7-Seater SUV of the Year’ four times in a row. That says a lot.

It really has changed the midsize SUV market. Every other brand seems to be trying to catch up.
There are other options to consider in this price range: Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, Prado, Hyundai Palisade, and others. Test drive them, compare features, and see which fits best.
I prefer the Explorer, but the third row might feel cramped.
