Engine light troubles

My engine light just came on, and it’s blinking. When I try to start my car, it sounds like it’s struggling. I also see white smoke that smells like fuel. I just got an oil change this month, and all the fluids are good. Could it be leaking fuel? Has anyone else had this problem?

If the engine light is blinking, don’t drive the car. Get it towed to a mechanic ASAP to avoid serious damage.

just figured out something. Is it even worth paying to fix though or should I go ahead and call it a day?

The only way to really know is to check the codes.

If your check engine light is flashing, it means there’s a serious problem with the engine. Driving with this issue can damage your catalytic converters.

Yeah I’ll just get it towed instead.

You have a fuel injector that is always open, causing the engine to misfire and making white smoke that smells like fuel. The flashing check engine light means running the engine will hurt the catalytic converters. It’s an easy fix and cheaper than buying a new car.

probably will never have any slightest ideas on the issue till someone checks the car and gets the codes. Once you have that information, you can decide what to do next.

possibly true like for the case of the code is a misfire code it may be simple to fix. Could also be fuel system or I/M monitor related. Someone will have to pull the codes to see.

The blinking light means “stop driving and tow it to a mechanic.”

That’s what I said too, but I know it’s tough to replace them, so I was like, whatever, lol.

The best thing to do is get the code(s) read (most auto parts stores do this for free). A blinking light usually means there’s a misfire. This can happen for many reasons, like spark plugs, spark plug wires, or the coil pack. But it could also be bigger issues like fuel injectors or loss of compression. What year and engine do you have? You can check for simple things first, like loose plug wires or connections. The reason you smell gas and the car runs rough is that one cylinder isn’t working, so the fuel isn’t burning and is going into the exhaust and oil. If you have any questions, let me know and I’ll help!
