I’m looking to switch to an SUV because getting in and out of my Lincoln MKZ has become a bit of a hassle. My wife already has an Escape Hybrid, which is fine, but I want something bigger.
I’ve owned three Explorers in the past, though nothing newer than a 1998. Never tried the Edge, but I’m considering it now.
Anyone have experience with the 2020 Explorer or Edge? I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.
I’ve had both a 2011 Explorer and now a 2021 Edge. If you don’t need a third row, the Edge is a great choice—it’s perfectly sized. The newer Edge has better tech (SYNC 4A in 2022), but the Explorer has mostly caught up now. Keep in mind, 2023 is the final model year for the Edge, so that’s something to consider. I’ve been very happy with my Edge.
I’ve owned a 2019 Edge Titanium and recently upgraded to a 2024 model. I absolutely love it. When I test drove the Explorer, it felt too big for what I needed. The Edge just fits perfectly into my life.
I had a 2015 Edge Titanium and loved it! Great on gas, but make sure you get a warranty. I had a few small issues that added up over time—things like rotors, pads, calipers, and sensors. Nothing major, but I’d recommend getting coverage just in case.
I have a 2020 Edge ST and it’s been perfect for my family of four. My husband and both of my sons are over six feet tall, and they all fit comfortably. It’s a great size, fun to drive, and packed with features.
I own a 2019 Edge ST and love it—it’s an absolute beast, especially tuned. The stock setup is impressive, but tuning it took it to another level. I also have an Expedition for extra space, but it’s like driving a boat compared to the Edge.
If you don’t mind the size, go with the Explorer. It’s rear-wheel-drive-based AWD is better than the Edge’s front-wheel-drive bias. The Explorer’s base engine has more power, and the ST version is a monster.
I just got a 2022 Edge Titanium and love it. Tons of cargo space, comfortable seats, and perfect for my dad, who struggles with mobility. I considered the Explorer but didn’t need the extra size.
My spouse and I recently retired and downsized to a 2023 Edge ST-Line. It’s spacious enough for road trips with our dogs and grandson, and it’s perfect for local driving. We don’t miss the extra size of the Explorer at all.
We have both an Edge and an Explorer. Honestly, the seating space isn’t much different between the two, but the Edge feels more maneuverable. This comparison might help: https://www.mykwford.com/research/edge-vs-explorer.htm
I have a 2020 Edge SEL with 48k miles and no issues so far. It’s disappointing that Ford is discontinuing it, but I might look at the Explorer when it’s time to replace it.
I’m on my second Edge ST and love it. I didn’t need the third row of the Explorer, and the Edge is easier to park in the city. It’s the perfect mix of power and practicality for me.
I went from a 2019 Edge Titanium Elite to a 2024 Edge ST, and it’s a whole different level. The twin-turbo V6 is amazing. Ford may not make perfect vehicles, but the Edge has been my favorite by far.
