For months, I’ve been dealing with electrical issues. My dome light, ambient lights, seat heater/cooler, and third-row seat all stopped working around the same time. I didn’t realize it was all connected until I started noticing the problems and traced them back. Is there a relay that controls all of these? I’ve tried researching online, and while I can find diagrams, getting clear explanations of what these parts do is really difficult. Funny enough, my map lights still work, but only when the engine is off.
All those components are connected to the body control module (BCM), or in Ford’s terms, the smart junction box (SJB). It’s usually located under the dash on either the driver or passenger side. This module controls a lot of things like door locks, lights, horn, audio, anti-theft, and climate control. Depending on how old your vehicle is, you might be able to find a new one, but for older Fords, you’d likely have to get one from a junkyard. There are also companies that specialize in repairing these. If you replace yours, it will need to be programmed to your vehicle to make sure all the features work properly.
I have a 2016 Sport, and the entire fuse panel is under the dash. Do you really think it could be the BCM ???
tbh, given that multiple systems are acting up at once, it’s possible that the issue is with the body control module (BCM), not just a single relay. In many Ford SJBs, there are relays that aren’t user-replaceable, such as the one for the horn. Fixing or replacing those relays usually means dealing with the entire SJB.
I highly recommend taking your car to a mechanic who has a bidirectional scan tool. This will help you check out the car and diagnose the problem more accurately.
thank you i’ll see to that
