Hey everyone! I have a 2018 Ford Explorer Sport and I’m getting ready to change the coolant. Should I stick with Motorcraft, or does anyone have other brand recommendations? Also, what color should I be using?
Motorcraft yellow should be what you need for that year. I usually go with OEM for my vehicles.

Thanks! The chart mentions that yellow can replace both orange and green.
Motorcraft is the way to go, just make sure whatever you pick is compatible with your cooling system. Ford seems to have moved away from orange for the 3.5L Duratec engine, common in these Explorers. Keeping the coolant clean and changed regularly can help extend the life of the water pump.

Thanks! Just checked the owner’s manual, and it says orange, but I remember hearing about a newer version. Is yellow the replacement?

Yes, yellow is the updated version that replaced orange.
If you’re just topping off, you can stick with orange (I use Zerex from Amazon). But if you’re doing a full flush, switch to yellow.

Appreciate it, thanks!
I saw Motorcraft gold in the store too, which just added to the confusion. With all these color changes, I just want to avoid any water pump issues.
I use Amsoil for all my fluids. Never had an issue. Yeah, it’s pricier, but it’s way cheaper than major repairs down the road.
Go with the new Motorcraft yellow. It’s the replacement for the orange. And don’t cheap out with any off-brand stuff!
