Anyone else having acceleration problems with their 2021 Ford Explorer Limited?

I’m having issues with acceleration on my 2021 Explorer Limited. Took it to the dealership, and they replaced one coil under warranty, but it’s still running rough. Curious if anyone else has dealt with this?

Had a similar issue in a different car. Could be your O2 sensors causing trouble.

Why did they only replace one coil? How old are the spark plugs? Sometimes, even if a dealership claims they’ve changed them, they haven’t. I had plugs supposedly replaced twice, but they were original at 250K miles.

@Lane
The dealership replaced the cylinder 1 coil, but I wanted all the injectors and plugs done. Warranty only covered the one coil/injector, so they didn’t touch the rest.

Check the spark plug in that cylinder too. It could easily be the problem.

The 2.3L engines are a pain. I really miss when they offered the 3.3L engine—it was way more reliable.

Totally agree. The 2.3 is too small for this vehicle. The turbo is under too much stress, and I’m not a fan of the 10-speed transmission either.

What codes did it throw?

It gave me P0201 (injector circuit open, cylinder 1) and then a cylinder 1 misfire code about 15 minutes later.

So was the coil they replaced the one tied to those codes? At 65K miles, your spark plugs should’ve already been replaced. If you’re comfortable with it, you can swap the coil pack to another cylinder and see if the error code moves.

@Casey
That was the code before they changed the coil, but even after the replacement, it’s still running terribly. No codes now, though.
