2025 Ford Explorer EV euro model… why does it exist?

Do we really need another EV? Let’s talk about it.

By the way, this one’s built on Volkswagen’s MEB electric platform.

Makes sense… it really looks like an ID.4 copy, even the wheelbase matches.

Volkswagen brains with Ford hands… what could possibly go wrong?

It’s like the official car of ‘I wanted an ID.4 but thought this looked more American,’ even though it’s German-made. Imagine confusing American tourists who think this is the huge Explorer back home.

Kinda gives off poor man’s Volvo vibes in style, but not much else.

Volvo? Oh, you mean that Chinese car brand?

We already have the Mach-E… why does this even exist?

Because apparently, more electric SUVs mean more sales… or something. /s

Isn’t this one bigger though?

Actually no, the Mach-E is a bit longer than the Explorer EV.

It’s cheaper but has the same range unless you get the extended-range Mach-E.

Ohh, so this is supposed to be entry-level. Why not base it on the regular Explorer though? It’s like if the F-150 Lightning was based on the Maverick.

@Quinn
I think they just liked the Explorer name, plus it’s not even coming to the US. Seems like a bad call long-term.

Wait, aren’t they planning to bring it to the US later this year?

@Quinn
I haven’t heard that. There was talk of a 3-row EV with the Explorer name, but I think that got scrapped.

@Quinn
It’s cheaper to reuse Volkswagen’s platform. They’ve also collaborated on the Ranger and Amarok.

Couldn’t Ford just modify the regular Explorer platform for an EV, like they did with the F-150?

@Quinn
Not always possible. The Explorer’s base might not work for an EV, and the regular Explorer wasn’t sold much in Europe, so it made sense to use VW’s platform.

@Quinn
This Explorer EV is just a reworked ID.4 using VW’s MEB platform.

Guess they just made it first and figured out the rest later.
