Also posted on another forum, but realizing the experts are likely here…
My local dealer has a leftover 2023 ST they’re willing to sell for $9k less than a new 2025 model. Are there any known issues with the 2023 that the 2025 may have fixed? It’s in line with KBB, but should I be worried that it’s been sitting at the dealership for 303 days?
Have you checked what used 2023 STs are selling for with low miles? Depreciation might be more than $9k already. But no big mechanical issues on the 2023—it’s a solid car.
I’d still say the 2025 is worth it, though. The new Google infotainment is way better than Sync.
For me, $9k isn’t a big enough discount. I’d be looking at closer to $12-13k off, especially since it’s been on the lot for almost a year and it’s now two model years older.
I went from a 2020 ST to a 2025 ST, and the improvement in ride quality is surprising. Not sure how the ‘23 compares, but the biggest changes are in engine and transmission. Overall build quality feels way better too. Minor downside: no ambient lighting in cup holders anymore, and the gauge cluster doesn’t change with drive mode. Small stuff, though. It’s a solid upgrade from earlier years.
I agree; $9k off isn’t quite enough. Why has a 2023 ST been sitting on the lot this long? The ST has always been popular. Check the mileage, because after about 2,000 miles, it’s not really ‘new’ anymore. Some dealerships let owners drive it or use it as a demo.
Once tried to buy a Limited but could never test drive it because the dealership owner’s wife was always ‘busy’ with it.
Also, check the warranty start date. I bought a car that was technically ‘used’ but had only 200 miles and a full warranty because it never actually sold.
Worked at a shop and saw three different Explorer STs come in for oil changes and inspections. Every single one had blown outer CV axle boots, with grease everywhere, even on the brakes. Highest mileage was around 60k, and one had only 20k miles. Anyone else noticed this?
