2021 horn location?

My horn has stopped working (both fob and at the wheel) on my 2021 limited, can’t find anything past 2019 online. Trying to determine if I can replace myself or not.

How do I go about this?

Easy, you just need to use a voltmeter in Continuity mode.

He’s looking for the relay. On many modern Fords, it’s located in the body control module (aka the smart junction box). This is usually found on the lower left side of the dash near the driver’s side.

If that’s the case, the relay isn’t replaceable on its own. To fix it, you’d need to replace the entire module and reprogram the new one.

Try Googling the horn relay location for your specific year, make, and model.

Don’t rule out a clockspring issue. It could be part of the problem as well.

I have the opposite problem :sob: My horn is stuck on all the time, that forced me to disconnecting the battery, take off the bumper, and unplug the horn. I changed the horn wire when I put in my new steering wheel, so the horn button doesn’t work now. I’ll probably put a new horn behind the bumper and hook it up to one of my extra switches. :face_holding_back_tears:

What year is your explorer? Where is the horn located? How did you do that?

It’s a 2020 model. I just unplugged the horn because I’m not sure where the relay is. Unfortunately, newer Explorers don’t have a horn fuse, so I couldn’t just remove that.

thx I was looking for them today and after closing the hood… they started working again… tbh think it might be a bad connection at the horn. If it happens again, I’ll need to check it out.

I have a 2021 Explorer, and the horn stopped working. I think the horns are on the driver’s side, based on something I read here, but I haven’t checked for sure. For now, I’m going to slam the hood to see if that helps.

Good for you! Now you’ll have to check for a loose wire somewhere? You can’t rule out anything yet so keep an eye out for the issue to recur.

fr if enough owners complain, this could lead to a safety recall.

All these explorers have messed-up horns. To the person with the horn that’s always blaring: you might have a problem with the smart junction box. If the relay is shorted (and you can’t just take it out and put in a new one), it’s causing an extra current draw that shouldn’t be there.
