2018 Ford Expedition Platinum… thoughts on the 3.5 EcoBoost and the design?

Anyone have thoughts on the new 2018 Ford Expedition Platinum? The 3.5 EcoBoost engine, and how it compares to V8 options? Also curious about the interior and exterior design—do you think it’s an improvement or just reusing the F-150’s layout?

Three seconds in and I had to close the video because the music was just unbearable.

Thanks for the heads-up. Guess I’ll pass on watching it.

I gave it a shot thinking, “How bad can it be?” Turns out it’s that bad.

Ford keeps using the 2015 F-150 interior for everything. This is the third vehicle with the same design.

What’s the second one?

The F-150 shares its cab and interior with the F-250/350, and now the Expedition. The panels and dash are basically the same.

@Ellington
Ah, got it. I just think of the Super Duty as part of the F-Series, so I lump them all together.

Not a fan of how it looks. And the 3.5? Meh. If it’s going to have the power and mileage of a V8, why not just stick with a V8?

Have you actually driven both? I have, and they both have their pros and cons. Personally, I’d go with the EcoBoost.

@Torin
Yeah, I’m a mechanic, so I’ve driven plenty of them. Long term, the turbos are a hassle to deal with, and direct injection can cause build-up issues. Ford’s improving on that now, but for me, I’d rather not deal with it.

@Reagan
Fair enough. I actually get better mileage with my 5.0 compared to the 3.5, but I kind of miss how the EcoBoost drives.
