They all look like cops on the highway and keep slowing everyone down.
I still slow down for Crown Vics, it’s like muscle memory at this point.

When I was in university, one of my friends had a Crown Vic. We’d park it on the side of a busy road and watch everyone slow down—it was hilarious.
@Teo
If you really wanted to have fun, you should’ve pointed a hair dryer out the window!

Crown Vics were easy to spot back in the day. Civilian sales ended early, so any plain one on the road was probably an unmarked cop car. Police departments didn’t even bother making them look less obvious with wheel covers or chrome grilles.
@Arlen
I took the hubcaps off my ‘97 Crown Vic—it looked so badass.

I drove a white ‘97 Crown Vic with a V8. Got it for $1,200 when I was 16. Everyone thought I was a cop when I pulled up.
@Noor
I bet you shredded those tires all the time! Those things are burnout machines.

Oh yeah, it was RWD and a blast to drive. Topped out at 195.

Was yours an ex-cop car? I’ve heard they had crazy reverse gear ratios—could hit 100km/h going backwards.
@Teo
Not sure, but it was a V8. Do retired cop cars need any special mods removed before being sold? I thought cruisers had upgraded engines, but mine didn’t seem special.

Same here. I’d always slow down for Crown Vics (classic cars, no disrespect), but now it’s just boomers and white dudes in sunglasses driving Ford Explorers, holding up traffic.
@Archer
Out by 41, I’ve seen unmarked Dodge Chargers, white or blue Focuses, and even a brown Toyota Tundra. They’re sneaky. Caught a lot of speeders near Wakaw.

Does anyone remember Regina using an old mid-90s Ford Ranger as an unmarked cop car? It feels like a fever dream now.
@Joey
I remember! There was definitely one back in the day. Weird choice, though.

This is valuable intel. You’re doing the Lord’s work.
When I see a white Explorer, I assume it’s a soccer mom.

Police vehicles have special packages—certified speedometers, different engines, etc. Lately, trucks are becoming more common for patrols.

I used to look out for Crown Vic headlights. Big rectangular whites next to upright yellows were a dead giveaway at night. Always slowed down in time.
I’m in Alberta. My wife drives a grey Explorer. I even made her a bumper sticker that says, ‘Not a cop.’ She gets a lot of thumbs up.
