The Ford Explorer EV (2024) is stirring up a lot of opinions. What do you think about its design and features? Let’s hear your thoughts!
What the North American market really wants is a plug-in hybrid Explorer. Use electric for city driving and the gas engine for road trips and towing.

Plug-in hybrids and regular hybrids make so much more sense than pure EVs. I completely agree with you on this.

If that’s what you’re looking for, you can already get it. It’s the Lincoln Aviator PHEV—490HP, but it’s $70k.
@Reagan
I love the Aviator! We test-drove it last year, but the price was a bit too steep for us.

If I had to guess, Ford will probably keep the plug-in hybrid option exclusive to Lincoln to differentiate the brand. But an all-electric Explorer is definitely coming in a couple of years.
This model isn’t related to the North American Explorer. It’s actually a two-row EV designed for the European market.

It’s just a rebranded VW ID.4 using the Explorer name. And honestly, it looks terrible.
@Bali
That’s not entirely true. While it does use the VW MEB platform (same as the ID.4), Ford claims it weighs less, has better aerodynamics, and the design—both interior and exterior—is fully Ford. Saying it’s the same as the ID.4 is like saying the Escape, Bronco Sport, and Maverick are the same vehicle.
This thing looks absolutely terrible. The new Kia EV is 10 times better looking, and even that’s not saying much because the Kia isn’t great either.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s so bad that it actually makes Kia’s designs look good. I never thought I’d prefer a Kia over a Ford, but here we are.

I was curious and had to check it out. Honestly, it’s not that bad. I actually find the gas-powered version of the new Explorer to be uglier and lacking personality. The previous generation looked way better.
It’s a nice-looking car, but without a third row or solid towing capacity, it’s not really an Explorer for the U.S. market.

Feels more like an Edge to me.
This might be the worst-designed Ford ever. It looks awful, like a total disaster. I’m just glad it’s not being sold in the U.S.
I hope Ford fires whoever designed this. It’s so bad that it makes the Mach-E look decent, and I never thought Ford could top the Mach-E in ugliness until now.
