Thinking about returning to an Explorer

Just to clarify, it’s an inline 4 (I4), not a V4.

Wait, what do you mean? (Genuinely curious here.)

A V4 engine has cylinders in a V shape, but most 4-cylinder engines, like the one in the Camry, are inline (I4), meaning the cylinders are in a straight line. The V4 configuration is rare.

Ah, that explains a lot. My old Camry was in an accident before I bought it, and I remember the guys at the shop asking why the hood said ‘V6’ instead of ‘V4.’

V4 engines do exist, but they’re really rare.

Yep, they do exist, but most cars like the Camry use inline 4 engines.

I’ve got a 2021 with the 2.3L EcoBoost, and even though I was skeptical at first, it’s more than enough power for a vehicle of this size.

I bought a Sync 3 upgrade kit from Amazon for my wife’s 2013 Limited. It cost $769, and the installation was straightforward. We’ve had it for over a year with no issues. It’s a huge improvement, and CarPlay really makes a difference.

When choosing between engines, I’d go with the V6 over the turbo 4. The turbo probably has enough power, but it’s another thing that could break. Plus, I’ve seen a lot of stories about issues with the 4-cylinder turbos.
