Hi all, I’m looking around on Facebook Marketplace for a Ford Explorer Limited because of the third-row seating. I keep seeing them listed between $7K and $12K, with mileage ranging from 80K to 150K.
To all the Ford Explorer owners out here… would you recommend this car? My wife loves the space and the design, but I’ve heard mixed opinions about Fords. Can’t be worse than her 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe, right?
All models come with third-row seating. If you don’t care much about the extras in the Limited trim (like a sunroof, larger infotainment screen, and heated leather seats), you can save some money by looking for an XLT.
At those mileages, especially over 100K, you’ll want to confirm if the water pump has been replaced. That’s a common and pretty expensive repair.
Overall, it depends on what you’re looking for. I had a 2011 XLT, bought used but with AWD, heated seats, and a bigger screen. It worked great for us until we had our third kid.

Thanks for the heads up about the water pump! By the way, what made you get rid of it, and how many miles were on it when you traded it in?
We needed something bigger after our third kid. Mid-size SUVs are fine for two kids, but three (especially with car seats) gets tricky. We bought it at 115K km and traded it in six years later at 185K km.
