Thinking about a 2020 Ford Explorer XLT… Good or Bad?

The original post has been removed, but the discussion is still open for anyone interested in the 2020 Ford Explorer XLT. Let’s hear your thoughts and advice!

Here’s something I just learned that might help: Before buying any car, look up the TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) for that make, model, and year. These bulletins cover common problems reported by repair shops or manufacturers, including the parts and labor needed to fix them. It’s a great way to figure out potential repair costs and make an informed decision.

@Kip
I’m not an expert on Fords, but I thought this might be useful for your research. Just learned about TSBs a few minutes ago and wanted to share!

Honestly, not really. The 2020 Explorer was part of a complete redesign, and like most first-year redesigns, it had its fair share of issues. Later models improved, but I’d suggest considering something like a Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, or Toyota Highlander instead.

Did you end up buying it?

Do you think it’s better to lease one?

The 2.3 EcoBoost engine is based on an older Mazda design that Ford has refined over the years. It’s reliable, but I wouldn’t recommend a 2020 Explorer. First-year models tend to have issues, and this one was no exception. If you’re set on an Explorer, look for a 2021 or newer model.

It’s a solid choice, and they look great! If you’re happy with it, go for it.
