Thinking About a 2020 Ford Explorer ST… Is It Worth It?

Looking at a 2020 Ford Explorer ST… anyone here own one? I hear it’s fun to drive and handles well in snow and light off-road conditions, but how reliable is it? I’m hoping to keep it for at least 150K-300K miles. The one I’m considering has 57,350 miles on it and fits my budget. Any thoughts or experiences?

I have a 2020 Platinum (same engine). GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. These are known for transmission and electrical problems.

Just don’t buy the extended warranty from the dealer you’re getting the car from.

@Kennedy
Why not?

I got mine from the dealer and haven’t had any issues.

You can usually get it cheaper from places like Zeigler or Granger.

If it’s not a CPO, make sure to get a Gold Certified one. These STs are fast, and you don’t know how hard it was driven before you. Gold Certified or nothing.

As long as it’s from a legit company like Ally or Assurant, you’re good.

Reddit logic: ‘Trust me, bro’ is all you need.

Jokes aside, you might get a better deal shopping around.

@True
Guess you missed my follow-up. But sure, keep doubting.

@Kennedy
You don’t even need to buy the warranty until your 3-year/36K runs out.

Agreed. Mine’s currently in the shop (covered under extended warranty, thankfully) for:

  1. Rear defrost replacement
  2. APIM (main display module)
  3. Satellite antenna
  4. GPS system fixes
  5. Backup camera
  6. Window actuator parts
  7. Headlight

Car has 75K miles… this would’ve cost me $10K out of pocket.

So basically… a long way of saying ‘No’?

More like: ‘Buy it, get the warranty, and don’t stress.’

Not a truck. Trucks have frames.

Go argue with the people who classify SUVs as trucks.

So are the Expedition and Navigator trucks or SUVs?

@Zion
A truck has a frame and an open bed.

Moving the goalposts now?

Thought that part was obvious, but I guess not.

What about the Explorer Sport Trac?
