I’m done working on new vehicles. Give me an old stripped-down truck any day. My 1998 F150 with 350K miles is much easier to work on, though I’ll need to rebuild it soon since it’s developed a head gasket leak at the #8 cylinder.
Thanks for the info, I wasn’t aware of that.
How are your coolant levels now? If you’re not losing coolant, you’re probably fine, but the longer you wait, the riskier it gets. I’d change the water pump and the timing chain while you’re at it.
I’ve added an inch or two over the past couple of weeks. Had the AC worked on, and they did a coolant pressure test, which passed with no leaks.
If you’re losing coolant, even a little bit, it’s going somewhere. You might see steam coming from under the hood while idling if the leak is small. If you have the tools, you could do the repair yourself, but it’s about 8-12 hours of labor. My mechanic charged me around $3K.
If it’s leaking, your AC compressor would probably be wet or sticky. My dealer did a pressure test and it passed, so I just check my AC compressor once a week for signs of a leak.
I’ve got a Ford Edge with 250K miles and haven’t had to change the water pump yet. They go out when they go out, no specific mileage.
