Setting up the door panel code on my 2022 Explorer… any way to avoid the dealership fee?

Hey all! I just got a 2022 Ford Explorer and wanted to set the door panel code, but it’s asking for the factory 5-digit code. Is there any way to find that code myself without paying $50-$60 for the dealership to do it? Would love to avoid the extra cost if possible. Any tips?

I think you might be able to find it in the car’s menu system? Anyone with a 2020+ Explorer know for sure?

If not, there should be a sticker with the code behind the smart junction box (BCM), usually under the dash on the driver’s side. You might need a scan tool to access it otherwise.

@Keller
I’ll check for that sticker—saw a YouTube video mentioning it might be on the passenger side, so we checked there but didn’t find it. I’ll look on the driver’s side too, thanks!

Look in the owner’s manual sleeve—there should be a little plastic card with the factory code on it.

Unfortunately, that card is missing from my manual.

Check the driver’s side front door near the hinges. Sometimes there’s a sticker there with the code.

Will do, I’ll check in the morning!

There should be a card with the code, usually in the manual. If it’s not there, maybe the dealer can reset it for free, especially if you bought the car from them recently.

Good idea! The card isn’t in my manual, but if I can’t figure it out myself, I might ask the dealership to help since I just bought the car from them a month ago.

Yep, unfortunately, that little card in the manual is gone.

Do you have two keys? Some Fords let you use both keys to retrieve the code:

Sadly, I only have one key. Saw that trick on YouTube too—looks like I might need to pay the dealership to run the codes if nothing else works. Just thought I’d check here first! I don’t NEED the code, but it’d be nice to use that feature.

Check under the dash, on the driver’s side near the fuse box. Use your phone camera to snap a pic of the code—it should be on a sticker there.

Just watched a video on that! Looks like I might need a 7mm socket wrench to remove the panel under the dash and unbolt the fuse box. There are about 4 or 5 bolts, I think?

Guess I’ll try to tackle it myself since my husband’s on the road for another month. Thanks for the advice!

The code is behind the fuse panel by the steering column. You’ll need a mirror on a stick and a couple of tools. Shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes.

I saw that in a YouTube video—looks like I’ll need a 7mm socket wrench? I don’t have any tools since my husband’s a truck driver and won’t be home for a while, but I might give it a shot myself. Thanks!
