Looking for a ford explorer but the prices are outrageous

Went to a local dealership and saw this explorer for $62,405.00. Would you all say it would be better if bought a full size SUV?

Check to see if there’s any ‘Dealer Markup’ or ‘Market Adjustment’ on the price. If there is, turn around and walk away, giving that dealership the big middle finger. Plenty of dealerships are adding thousands of dollars to the MSRP.

This one seems to be a higher trim.

Yes it is, but none went below $39,000. Lowest was the XLT at $40,000.

Have you looked at Houston or other larger markets? They have more competition so they can get more competitive pricing.

That’s my next option. I bought my ‘98 Nissan Frontier in Houston after a local dealer tried selling me something I didn’t want. Same with my Tacoma.

I couldn’t get a decent price new on a 4Runner. I ended up paying a smaller premium at CarMax for a used one. Didn’t want an $800/month payment.

Exactly why I’m saving to buy my next vehicle straight cash.

Funny enough, sometimes that gets you a worse deal. It’s best to negotiate like you are financing and take the financing. Then just pay it off all at once with the first payment.

What trim is that? I bought a brand new 2023 Limited last year and paid $54,000.

ST trim.

I just looked up the ST in San Francisco, and it’s listed for $7,000 less than your quote.

Have you tried looking into used Police Interceptors? They have reasonable prices and people will fear you on the road. :man_shrugging:

My nephew bought one.

Buy a used car. Dealers will continue to charge these outrageous prices until ‘the market adjusts,’ i.e., people stop paying. I refuse to eat the depreciation.

Look at the Lincoln Aviator—same engine and costs less.

Have you looked in San Antonio? I got a brand new car there for $10,000 less than what Bert Ogden wanted for the same car.

Buy 10 2006 Explorers for $60,000. Start your own used Explorer lot. Kill it.

Fords are trash anyway. Get a Honda Pilot or Hyundai SUV.
