Excited to share that I just picked up the keys to the new Ford Explorer EV. Let me know what you think!

Wow, I can’t believe Ford is trying to sell this as an Explorer. It’s about 2 feet shorter, 6 inches narrower, and 7 inches lower than the standard Explorer. The range is only 270 miles, and it’s being sold overseas right now. It doesn’t even have three-row seating.

It’s going to take some getting used to, especially compared to the Gen 6 Explorer.

@Holland
Feels like they should’ve called it an Escape instead of an Explorer.

Ford Escplorer.

@Holland
I wish the size had something to do with off-road capability. SMH.

Fugly.

Ford really doesn’t want money, huh?

Looks more like a Taurus wagon than an Explorer. Bad move, Ford.

Why though? Lol.

I’m sure it’s a good car, but it doesn’t deserve the Explorer name. I’m old school—the Explorer is supposed to be a truck-based SUV, not something you plug in.

What exactly is this supposed to explore? A bunch of charging stations? I’ll stick with my 4th Gen, thanks.

Ugly as hell.

Swap the battery for a 3.5 V6, please.

Cool, how’s it drive?

(Current '23 ST owner here.)

I’m sure it’s not as fast as your beast of a machine.

The AWD EV does 0-60 in about 5.1 seconds, while the ST AWD V6 is around 5.3 seconds. Pretty comparable, but you can’t tune the EV. A tuned ST can hit 4.6 seconds, I think.

@Ezri
Good info. EVs have crazy acceleration, but I was thinking more about top speed. The smaller size of the EV helps its 0-60, but when you tune the ST and run 93 octane, it’s impressive that it can keep up or even beat the EV. The range is another story though—the ST can go farther between fill-ups.
