Is the Ford Explorer a good truck? I was just looking into one

I have a 2020 Platinum with 28k miles. It’s been great—no issues at all, and it tows a 6x10 trailer (~5000 lbs capacity) with ease.

I love my 2017 XLT with the 2.3L EcoBoost. Plenty of power for family needs, but if you’re looking at one, make sure it has a tow package if you need that.

Technically, the Explorer is a midsize SUV, not a truck, especially since it has a unibody frame instead of body-on-frame construction.

I need a 3rd row, something good on the road, and low maintenance issues. Is the 2.3L engine reliable? I’ve never owned a Ford before.

The 2.3L is a solid engine, but I’d recommend looking at the XLT trim at the very least. It has more comfort and convenience features compared to the base model. If you can swing it, the Limited trim offers the best value for features.

I’ve got a 2020 ST, and it’s been flawless. The twin-turbo V6 with 400hp is a beast on the road. Highly recommend.

I own a 2022 XLT, and it’s smooth, quick, and spacious. The XLT trim offers a good balance of features without breaking the bank. However, I’d avoid the 2020 model since it was the first year of the redesign and had some issues.

If you’re spending $30k for one with 34k miles, you might want to compare it to other options like the Toyota Highlander. But the used car market is still inflated right now.
