Is the 2019 Explorer XLT worth it or did I make a mistake?

I thought I was making a good decision buying a 2019 Explorer XLT, but it’s been three days, and I’m already dealing with problems. The electrical system is acting up—everything is flashing, the rear door won’t open, the radio is dead, and the check engine light is on. I’ve got to wait a whole week to get it checked out at the dealer. Honestly, I’m just really disappointed right now.

A lot of people are happy with their 2016-2019 Explorers, but yeah, some do have issues. Sounds like you might’ve gotten unlucky with yours.

Yeah, everything was fine until it suddenly wasn’t! I don’t see a lot of people complaining about the 2019 models, so this just sucks.

@Storm
That really does suck. Hopefully, they can get it fixed for you quickly.

Sometimes these issues pop up if the battery was replaced but the reset procedure wasn’t done properly. Maybe that’s what happened with yours?

I was hoping it was just a battery thing, but I was pulling into a shopping center when the steering wheel made this loud popping noise, and then everything went haywire. I’m not so sure anymore.

@Storm
That’s a weird one. Hopefully, the dealership can figure it out. Keep us updated.

If you just bought it, I don’t understand why they’re making you wait a week. You might want to talk to the general manager or someone higher up to push for faster service. You shouldn’t have to deal with this after just buying the car.

@Mai
I’m going in tomorrow to talk to my salesman and the sales manager. The service area told me a week, but I’m hoping the sales team can speed things up. It’s frustrating because I literally just bought this car.

Did you buy it from a dealership?

Yeah, I got it from a Ford dealer.

I hope they make things right for you. You shouldn’t be dealing with these problems so soon.

@Gale
Thanks! Fingers crossed they take care of it.

Future 2019 Explorer owner here! Did they figure out what the issue was?

Yeah, it ended up being an electrical problem. They fixed it, and it’s running great now. Just make sure you get a solid warranty because repairs can get pricey fast.

@Storm
Good to know! Have you had any other issues since? What’s your mileage at now?

No other issues so far. I’m at about 62,000 miles now. I just stay on top of oil changes and checkups. Honestly, I love the car—it’s been great after that first hiccup. From what I’ve seen, 2018-2019 are some of the best years for the Explorer.

@Storm
I’ve heard about water pump issues on some models. Have you run into that?
