No Ford is reliable. Those have timing chain issues and PTU problems. Water pumps fail and leak coolant (often inside the engine). The water pump is driven by the timing chain. The 3.5 and 3.5 Ecoboost engines are trash. The new design has chains on national backorder. I recommend a Honda or Toyota instead.

I thought Hondas weren’t very reliable?

No, are those reliable cars? The ones in my price range have 110-120k miles.

No, they are not.

Basically don’t get anything that is a front-wheel-drive American vehicle. Or just don’t get any American-made vehicle. They are all garbage. Used car? Get a Honda, hands down. Super easy to work on and super reliable if taken care of. I drive a newer Volkswagen, and as a mechanic, I have not noticed any issues. German or Japanese is the way to go.
My wife has a 2014 Explorer with 225k on it and no major issues. She loves the car, and we’re planning to get a newer Explorer soon. I also have a 2004 F150 with 200k on it, still going strong. I’ve had good experiences with Ford overall.
No. Nothing Ford is reliable. My 2023 Explorer only lasted 6 months—it was in the shop 7 times.

Brother, it’s almost been a year. I already have the car.

For what it’s worth, I hope it has been great for you.

Considering a 2013 Ford Explorer. How has yours held up? Any issues?

I didn’t buy the 2013. I ended up getting a 2014 Ford Explorer Sport with 84k miles, now at 103k. I drive a lot, and I love it. The only issue I’ve had is with the catalytic converter not operating at the threshold, but it’s manageable with CataClean. Overall, it’s been a great car.
