Fully Charged reviews the Ford Explorer EV… what do you think?

Fully Charged shared their thoughts on the Ford Explorer EV, highlighting both the good and the bad. Here’s a summary from their review:

Positives:

  • Simple design, not overdone with creases
  • Built on the MEB platform
  • Spacious for both front and rear passengers
  • 450L boot space
  • Clever storage options throughout

Negatives:

  • Driving feel: Soft and comfortable but with a lot of body roll in corners
  • Seats: Flat and lack support
  • Ford claims over 600 km range, but this seems unlikely in real-world conditions
  • Shares many of the annoyances of the ID.# series
  • Infotainment screen feels outdated and isn’t very responsive

Do you agree with their take? Would you consider buying one?

Sounds like a lot of this could apply to the new Ford “Capri” too.

Here’s a link about it: Ford Capri comeback as an electric crossover.

Haptic buttons are the worst. Seriously, who thought these were a good idea? What are they saving, a few pennies? Does anyone actually like them?

I don’t think anyone genuinely likes them. At best, some people just tolerate them. But yeah, they’re awful.

Who handles the EV platform and drivetrain updates for these—Ford or VW? How do over-the-air (OTA) updates work? Does VW push updates to their ID.# cars first, and then Ford gets them later? Or does Ford have its own team working on VW’s platform?

@Dez
Pretty sure VW handles it. As far as I know, the software on the MEB Ford vehicles is basically just a heavily customized version of VW’s ID. software.

Base price is €47,590 here in Finland. That doesn’t even include a heat pump. Not exactly a great deal.

The one thing that stands out, though, is the ground clearance: 193 mm unladen and 140 mm fully loaded. That’s a big deal for areas like ours, where snow sticks around from November to April and roads are full of frozen debris.

I’m debating between this and the Renault Scenic. Loved the Scenic, but its low ground clearance is a dealbreaker for me.
