Explorer Platinum vs. Limited… Does the 2.3L feel underpowered?

I’ve got a 2022 Timberline with the 2.3L. I’m not one for speed, but I do take it off-road and tow a boat and trailer often, no issues at all. Total trailer weight is just under 5,000 lbs.

I have the same setup. Towing a small camper, I get around 17 mpg. My old Flex with the 3.5 EcoBoost only got 11 mpg towing. I was a bit hesitant to switch to the 2.3L, but the 10-speed transmission makes towing so much easier.

Appreciate the info! :pray:t3:

Switching to Sport Mode helps a lot.

Not underpowered at all. I was worried too, but modern 4-cylinder engines are way more powerful than they used to be. The turbo makes a huge difference—it’s pretty impressive.

It’s got plenty of power for everyday use.

I don’t think it’s underpowered, but I still feel the 6-cylinder fits the SUV better. The 4-cylinder turbo sounds a bit out of place in a bigger SUV.

I came from a 2010 Land Cruiser V6 and a RAV4, so the Explorer feels like a rocket ship in comparison :joy:

I love the power. I have the 2.3L EcoBoost in my Timberline, and the 300HP combined with sport mode is plenty for me. I test drove the ST and liked it, but couldn’t justify the extra cost just to burn more fuel.
