Are 2021 Explorers holding up? Need honest opinions

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews about the 2021 Ford Explorer. Some places say it’s reliable, others say it’s best to avoid. I’m specifically asking about the 2.3L engine, not the ST or hybrid versions. What’s been your experience?

I’ve got a 2021 XLT with 35k km on it. No issues so far. It’s great on fuel, super comfortable, and pulls my trailer without a problem. Handles snow like a champ too. I’m really happy with it.

The ones built in Chicago have worse build quality compared to the ones made down south. That’s just the reality.

Where are you getting that info?

JD Power, Consumer Reports, and my own experience.

@Hayden
I just picked up a used 2018 with 37k miles. It’s a Chicago build. Do you think I should stick with the extended warranty I got (it’s an MPP plan, not Ford’s ESP)? I’m planning to call Ford and see if I can switch to one of their plans instead.

2020 was the year to avoid. The 2021 models are much better.

I’ve got a 2022 with almost 10k miles. I love it so far—no problems at all. I’m curious to see how it handles in the snow this winter. The backup camera is one of my favorite features.

I drive a 2021 XLT and I’m really happy with it. The 2.3L engine is solid, more than enough power. Is it perfect? No, but no car is. Occasionally I hear a rattle in the back, but it’s just something in the interior, not a mechanical issue. The rattle comes and goes, so I don’t worry about it. Overall, it’s a great vehicle.
