Anyone heard anything about the 2024 Ford Explorer?

Any updates on the 2024 Ford Explorer in the US? When’s it coming out? What are the specs? Any leaked pics?

I’ve got a 2017 Explorer Platinum—it’s been an awesome ride! Paid it off earlier this year after a six-year loan. Thinking about using it for a trade-in, but I need to see what the 2024 model is offering. The 16 MPG I’m getting just isn’t cutting it anymore.

Yeah, there’s a bunch of info on Ford Authority.

Basically, the refresh they had planned for 2024 got delayed. Ford still has tons of 2023 models stuck in Chicago waiting on camera replacements. The 2024 model will be the same as the 2023 and will only be sold for a couple of months starting in January. The real refresh is coming with the 2025 model, which should be out in early spring next year. So if you want the updated version, best to wait about six months.

@Reagan
So basically, sit tight for six months and wait for the 2025?

That is… unless the UAW strike happens and drags on.

Yeah, that’s the wild card. But if the strike lasts six months, that’s a way bigger problem. The last one went for six weeks. If it kicks off this week, it’ll probably slow down the rest of the 2023 models still sitting in Chicago. Might even mean they shut down the 2023 model year early or push the 2024 start later. I’d guess the 2025 should be fine by the time it rolls out, though.

@Reagan
Yeah, maybe. I grew up in SE Michigan, and my mom’s side of the family was all Ford employees. Between my dad, uncles, aunts, and even a great uncle, they probably racked up over 120 years working there. I used to be a die-hard Ford fan, but honestly, their decisions make no sense to me anymore. Nothing they do surprises me at this point.

@Reagan
No way, I’m not buying one if that’s true. Why does China always get the good stuff while we get leftovers? That CEO is making some really strange choices.

Exactly. They give China the best and leave us with scraps.

@Reagan
It’s ridiculous. They send China the latest and keep Americans stuck with outdated models. Look at the 2024 Nautilus—China got it first, and now it’s only being made there. They’ll toss a few our way like they’re doing us a favor. Ford is basically owned by China at this point.

@Reagan
Not sure why people are saying the 2024 is the same. There was a refresh planned, and there are leaked photos out there. Search ‘2024 Ford Explorer refresh,’ and you’ll find them. Looks like updated headlights, grille, taillights, and a new infotainment system. I’m on my fourth Explorer and love them. I have a 2019 Limited and was planning to upgrade this year, so I’ve been following the news closely. No one seems to know the exact release date, probably because of all the delays. My dealership emailed me last week asking if I wanted to be on the list for ordering. I told them I need to see it first. https://www.motortrend.com/news/2024-ford-explorer-spy-photos-everything-we-know

@Blaine
You might be a little behind on the latest updates. Ford Authority recently reported that the changes planned for 2024 were delayed until the 2025 model. The 2024 will just carry over the 2020-2023 design and be sold for a few months before the 2025 version with all the updates hits in spring.

@Reagan
Wait, so the 2024 will barely be around? And the 2025 comes out in like 8 months? Am I understanding this right? Not trying to be difficult, just making sure I get it.

Yeah, that’s the rumor. Your dealer might not even know because none of this is official yet, just insider info from Ford Authority.

@Reagan
Got it, thanks! Just saw the article. Also checked out the new Acadia—it’s looking way better now. Not sure I’d switch since I’ve stuck with Explorers, but it’s tempting. Unless they jack up the price, of course.

Dealerships are clueless. Ford doesn’t tell them anything.

So no Sync 4 on the 2024 Explorer? That’s disappointing.

Thanks for all the info! Sounds like I should just wait for the 2025 model.

This whole thing is frustrating… I really wanted Sync 4, and my dealer swore up and down the 2023 would have it. That was a lie.

I put down a deposit early, only to find out they were sticking with Sync 3. Plus, they quietly got rid of the foot-swipe hatch opener in the middle of the 2022 model year.

I almost refused delivery on my 2023 to wait for the 2024. Now I’m kind of glad I took it because who knows when Ford is actually going to bring back Sync 4 and the tailgate sensor.

@Parker
That’s why I just bought out the lease on my 2020. Got a Limited with nearly every option available back then, and the 2.3L engine gets better gas mileage. With all the feature cuts and shortages, my 2020 actually feels like a better deal than what’s out now. I love Sync 4 in my wife’s Edge, but I’m holding onto mine until the Explorer gets some real upgrades.

@Parker
The foot-swipe tailgate sensor is gone for good. It wasn’t popular, so a lot of brands dropped it. Think Honda’s the only one still advertising it.

Ford Authority has a bunch of info. 2024 models are coming soon, but be warned—chip shortages are still affecting features. Depending on the trim, you might lose things like the 360-degree camera.
