2025 Ford Explorer ST … Did Ford Fix the Problems?

The Geese are back with their take on the 2025 Ford Explorer ST and the changes Ford made.

The original SavageGeese video on this generation was legendary. They absolutely hated the car.

And for good reason. Ford really dropped the ball with it. It was like reliving the disaster of the 2012 Civic launch.

Imagine going back to a RWD platform and somehow making it worse than the Taurus-based one. That takes talent.

Farley wasn’t even in charge when the 6th gen launched. Joe Hinrichs took the fall for it and ‘retired’ shortly after.

Exactly. Blaming Farley for this is just misinformation.

Yeah, Farley came in later. The Explorer’s problems were already baked in by then.

Still, Farley hasn’t been great overall, and people have plenty of reasons to criticize him.

I missed the Explorer rollout, but the Mustang launch presentation was a joke. Was that Farley’s doing too? Not sure who to blame for that mess.

Didn’t the car slide off the ramps during that presentation?

My dad’s older-gen Explorer Sport was awful too, so this isn’t new for Ford.

The 2025 model is better, but there are still way better options for a 3-row SUV.

The Geese were 100% right about the 2020 model. At least Ford listened to some of the feedback.

They had to. Trucks and SUVs are Ford’s bread and butter, especially since that’s basically all they sell now.

They’re not helping themselves by using wet timing belts on turbos and cutting costs with cheap plastic parts. It’s asking for trouble.

These SUVs are surprisingly quick for their size.

Tuned STs can really surprise people. They can keep up with Chargers and Camaros at lower speeds.

Not sure about that. Even tuned, they’re still heavier and down on power compared to a V8 Camaro.

In stoplight races on unprepared surfaces, the Explorer’s AWD can keep it competitive up to about 60 MPH. After that, the muscle cars pull ahead.

Real-world races aren’t always about straight-up performance. I’ve surprised faster cars in my Denali just by getting a head start.
