2020 Explorer driver seat stuck in recline… anyone else?

Has anyone had an issue where one side of the driver’s seat won’t come back up from recline? If so, what was the fix?

What do you mean by one side? My seat doesn’t recline in separate pieces; it’s just one seat.

It’s one seat, but one side (near the center console) moves slightly back up while the other side (near the door) stays stuck. Does that make sense?

@Zen
So it’s moving unevenly, like crooked? Maybe something is stuck in the track or anchor point, and the motor can’t push that side.

Yes, that’s exactly it! I also noticed two small pieces fell out of the seat. One looks like a little plastic gear.

@Zen
That sounds like the issue. The gear is likely what helps the seat move and stay in place. There should be one on each side. If it’s missing or broken, that would explain why it’s not working properly.

Did you figure out what was wrong?

Yes, I took it to the dealer. They said it’s a bent seat frame. Thankfully, it’s covered under the extended warranty.

Were they able to fix it the same day? This just happened to us today. Our passenger seat reclined, and now the right side moves, but the left stays stuck.

They had to order the part, but it arrived the next day. I’m bringing it back Monday, and they said it’ll take a few hours to fix. It’s such a pain trying to drive with my seat stuck. I got a lumbar cushion from Ross in the meantime, and it helps a little.

@Zen
Good to know! Luckily, ours is on the passenger side, so not as big of an issue. We’ll schedule an appointment soon. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your repair.

No problem. The dealer told me they’ve never seen this issue before, so hopefully yours is more familiar with it!
