2009 Explorer: Service RSC NOW warning… what should I check?

I just bought this truck, and after a couple of days, the ABS, traction control, and BRAKE (!) lights came on with a long chime. I scanned for codes, and the only thing showing is an ECU internal error.

The truck drives perfectly fine. Any ideas what might be causing this? Has anyone dealt with this before? I’m planning to start by cleaning all the connectors.

It could be a number of things: wheel speed sensors, low brake fluid, or something else.

Weird that it wouldn’t show up as a specific code. I’m starting to think the module itself might be bad, but there’s no way to know for sure.

@Grayden
OBD diagnostics are only as good as the implementation by the manufacturer and the scan tool you’re using. Results can vary a lot.

I’ve tried a few different scanners, and they all point to an internal module error. I’m planning to replace the sensors anyway since it’s time for a brake job.

Have you tried using Forscan?

What’s that?

It’s a free, powerful scan tool. Definitely worth checking out.

ECU stands for Electronic Control Unit, usually located under the dash. It might just be a blown fuse.
